SPECTRO’s “extraordinarily good result”: total score of 98 percent in accordance with VDA 6.1
Kleve, October 22, 2002. SPECTRO, the leading manufacturer of optical emission and X-ray fluorescence spectrometers with more than 18,000 installations worldwide, successfully completed a quality audit by the German Iron and Steel Institute (VDEh) on October 15. Auditors awarded SPECTRO a total score of 98 out of a total of 100 possible points.
SPECTRO’s score was extraordinarily high, according to statements made by VDEh quality auditors. SPECTRO CEO Tom Blades views this achievement as an endorsement of the quality policies practiced by SPECTRO: “The metal producing and processing industries are among the key customers for our equipment, so we are extremely pleased to receive public praise for our quality processes from our most important customers.”
This praise was the result of a supplier audit conducted by the German Iron and Steel Institute’s rolling mill working group on behalf of its members. Because all members of this group maintain quality management systems which include third-party services and operating equipment, these must also be monitored on an ongoing basis. The supplier audit was conducted in accordance with the checklist in VDA Manual No. 6.1 “Quality Management System Audit.” The focus here is on the extent to which suppliers set up, manage, and monitor their production processes with a view to optimal product quality.
