The SPECTRO MS utilizes a newly designed ion optic developed for the requirements of the mass spectrometer and the detector; it is optimized for efficient ion transport and filters electrons, neutral particles and photons from the ion beam.

The optic includes five components:
1.The Extraction Lens directs the ions into the optic
2.The Einzel Lens System focuses the ions onto the pre-filter
3.The Pre-Filter guides the ions into a curved flight path
4.The Extractor focuses the ion beam into the mass spectrometer
5.The Quadrupole Doublet forms the ion beam and precisely aligns it to the spectrometer inlet
