Portable ED-XRF for Chemical Characterization in Additive Manufacturing

In additive manufacturing using metallic feedstock it is important to be sure about the composition of the metallic powders. One very easy approach is to use X-ray fluorescence analysis (XRF).

Energy dispersive XRF (ED-XRF) is characterized by its flexibility regarding sample size and shape. An ED-XRF spectrometer like the SPECTROSCOUT can handle metallic powder feedstock materials, finished parts and metallic powders remaining from the additive manufacturing process.

One additional advantage of the method is the non-destructiveness, which makes it even more suitable for the analysis of finished parts. The technology can be used for an easy and fast positive material identification and for a quantification of the contents of elements present in the samples.
